Plant hormones are essential for plant development and defense responses. Auxin plays a central role in many aspects of plant growth and development, which is the only plant hormone known to be transported polarly. Polar localization of auxin efflux carrier PIN proteins determines the direction of auxin transport, which contributes to local auxin gradient formation for organogenesis. Other plant hormones regulate plant growth and development mainly through interaction with the auxin pathway, including auxin biosynthesis, polar auxin transport and auxin signaling. The stem cell niche in the root apical meristem is essential for root development. It has been known that both local auxin gradient and transcriptional regulation are very important for root stem cell niche maintenance. This report is mainly related to the auxin-mediated plant adaptive growth and root stem cell niche maintenance.
