题目:Structural studies of PA subunit from the Influenza virus and the mechanisms of the host responses upon viral infection

This talk will include two parts:
The RNA polymerase complex of the influenza virus consists of three subunits: PB1, PB2 and PA and it can produce three different types of RNA: mRNA, cRNA and vRNA. Howerver, how these functions are regulated is not clear. In the past years, we have been focusing on the structural study of this protein complex and determined the N terminal and the C terminal structures of PA subunit. These results revealed an important function of PA. Upon virus infection, innate immune response is initiated by host cells to against the infection. Some of these proteins are produced at very early stage, such as Interferons. The production of Inferferons further induces the expression of many other genes. The functions of these Interferon inducible genes are largely unknown. We have determined structures of some of these proteins, such as that of an antiviral protein ZAP, and obtained some interesting results.
