Hans-Juergen Thiesen studied medicine at the University of Hamburg (Germany: 1976-1983). From 1985 to 1987 he cloned KOX1/ZNF10 at the EMBL in Heidelberg (Germany). From 1987 to 1995 he characterized human ZNF genes of the C2H2 type at the Basel Institute for Immunology (Switzerland). December 1988 he identified the first KRAB domain in KOX1/ZNF10. 1995 he was appointed Professor and Head of the Institute of Immunology at the University of Rostock. He initiated and coordinated the first national-wide research project focusing on Clinical Proteomics in Germany (www.proteome-alliance.de) and inaugurated the Proteome Center Rostock in 1999, headed by Prof. Michael Glocker.
