Multipotent Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC): Hopes and Hypes of Regenerative Medicine

Abstract:

Multipotent hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) is a very critical stem cell type which can generate nearly all the other types of hematocytes and regulate the amount of them in the blood. In vertebrate, the hematopoiesis takes place in the bone marrow from very few multipotent HSC which can self-renew and differentiate into different types of hematocytes. The transplantation of multipotent HSC has been widely used for treating hematologic diseases such as leukemia and hemophilia. In this journal club we will talk about the underlying mechanisms of the limitation and direction choice of the differentiation of multipotent HSC, and discuss how the clinical multipotent HSC transplantation treatment benefits from these researches.
