Abstract:

All kinds of alcohol drink can be surly attractive for many people. But recently there is report saying that the consumption of alcohol contributes to global mortality and cancer development. As we all know, most of the toxic effects of alcohol are probably caused by its oxidation product acetaldehyde, which is highly reactive towards DNA. In humans, deficiency in DNA-crosslink repair causes the inherited illness Fanconi anaemia, a devastating condition that leads to abnormal development, bone-marrow failure and cancer. Those reports suggest us to keep away from alcohol. However, resveratrol, a constituent of red wine, has long been suspected to have cardioprotective effects. And its identification as a chemopreventive agent for skin cancer and reports that it activates sirtuin deacetylases also confirm that drinking some wine maybe not so bad.
