Phase Separation in Gene Regulation

Abstract:

Liquid-liquid phase separation happens when two liquids coexist as separate phases and don’t get mixed up with each other (like oil and water). It’s proposed as an underlying mechanism of membraneless organelle formation. By phase separation, cellular space can be organized into dynamic compartments for different biological processes. In recent years many groups have jumped into this field. They came up with models or experimental evidence of how this concept can shed light on many basic questions, such as transcriptional regulation and genome organization.
